Reflections

The song I am making my music video to is Justin Bieber's 'What do you Mean?'.

The reason I have chosen to do my video to this song is because it is a song which has a good beat to dance to, which works with the concept of my video which is a giraffe dancing around the streets.
This will appeal to my target audience, which varies from young children to middle aged people. This is because the video is upbeat, fun and different, which would capture people's attention and as it is a very clean video, it is appropriate for everyone to watch.

My video is going to subvert the usual conventions of a pop and dance music video because usually (in a pop music video) there will be a visual link between the video and the lyrics because otherwise the video would not make any sense and people wouldn't want to watch it as they would be confused and think it's irrelevant. Not only this, but having something visual to relate to will help the people to remember the lyrics which therefore makes the song even more popular.

In pop and dance music videos, the lighting is usually very bright, as well as the clothing being very bright to make it eye catching and appeal to the target audience. The reason why the clothes are bright and vibrant are because it gives the impression to the target audience that the people are lively and this is something that the young people are attracted to. The vibrant clothes are always fashionable at the time, which is another reason why the video would appeal to younger people as fashion is usually something very important to younger people. Having the bright colours and happy people gives the audience a feel good feeling. This appeals to the target audience as they are young and just want to have a good time, and these videos might be making them remember some of the memories they have had at parties.

When making pop music videos, the artists are usually young which is very relatable for the audience. In pop and dance music videos, there are usually some referencing to the artist's name to establish who the song is by. This makes the artist more well known and then the target audience will remember the artists name and become a fan of the artist and their songs.

Within pop videos, there are usually lots of performance scenes, as well as narrative. The reason why there are often some performance scenes is because the narrative video would become boring to watch, and the artists are performers, therefore they should be performing to show off their talent and be taken seriously through their talent.

Dance music videos are usually filmed in lively atmospheres such as in clubs or parties so the genre of music matches the video.

The way my video will subvert the typical conventions of a dance and pop music video is because my artist is not wearing 'fashionable' clothing as they're wearing a giraffe outfit. The filming will not be happening at a party, club, studio or anywhere where a music video is typically filmed, which is another demonstration of how my video subverts the typical conventions of a music video.
