More Music Options

All Song Choices:

  1. The Weeknd
    • The Hills
  2. Justin Bieber
    • What do you mean?
  3. PSY
    • Gangnam Style
  4. Daft Punk
    • One More Time
    • Get Lucky
  5. Out Kast
    • Hey Ya

Animal Costumes

I am going to have my artist (and a dancer) dressed up in animal costumes. I am not yet sure whether the costumes will be onesies or fancy dress costumes, however the options are:

  • Bear
  • Giraffe
  • Tiger
  • Pig
  • Bunny
  • Monkey
The people are going to be either in front of a blank screen dancing and singing into the camera, or walking round the town and city dancing with people and making friends with strangers on the trains, tubes and streets.

There could be a storyline and it leads to a dance-off, or the animals could just begin having a dance off in the middle of the street/in front of the blank screen. The reason I have chosen to make my video have animal costumes is because it is unique and goes against the conventions of a typical hip-hop/R'n'B music video. It is pastiche as I am imitating the original conventions of a hip-hop music video, however with some different aspects.

Digipak Idea

This is my digipak (front cover) idea. The bears are showing that my video is people dressed in animal costumes. The bears are supposed to be 'gangster' as they have had a dance off in the video, and they are in front of a brick wall which may have graffiti on to emphasise the 'gangster'.

Song Choices

Above are the songs that I am considering using for my music video, and the narrative which could go with most of those songs. Although I probably wouldn't use a song where the narrative didnt work, if I did, the narrative would only be changed a little bit to suit the song more.

Not all of the locations are 100% where I will be going, however there is a chance that I would film outside of someones house as if the animals were 'breaking up for the final time'. I may also go inside the hosue as I feel that this would make the video and the animals relationship seem even more personal and real which might relate to the viewers.

The age group of people who I would be aiming my music video at would be children, teenagers and young adults. This is because I think children would like the cuddly animals, teenagers and young adults could connect with the relationship that is going on in the video and also, all ages would enjoy the fact that there are animals dancing.

Meeting

Today I am meeting with my artist to discuss the new ideas that will be happening and the new outfit ideas or costumes that he could potentially be wearing. There is now the possibility of another person involved as another dancer, however they will be also in a costume if the artist is - unless they are going to be dressed in the fashionable clothes that are popular now.

Here are the initial ideas of the new video:

SONG CHANGE

After doing some initial testing shots with my artist, we started to come up with better ideas for more upbeat songs and as the song I originally chose to do was not very upbeat and could not have very many different ideas which I could realistically shoot, although the ideas I had were good.

We have now decided to change the song to a more upbeat and exciting one where I can use some exciting ideas. My video will be slightly controversial in the fact that I might have people in animal costumes dancing/having a dance off.

Inside Message (CD) and Inside Cover

On the inside of my CD cover, there will be a heartfelt message from my artist. I think the inside message will say something such as:

I dedicate this album to all my fans.

Without your constant love and support,
this album could never have been produced,

always yours

Performers

As I have suggested using a dancer in my video, I have asked a couple of people whether they would be in my music video. Here are the couple of people who I might use as a dancer if I decide that the dancing scene would fit into my music video well.

Outline of Video

Artist Family Photos

In my video, I might be using family photos of the artist to show reminiscence of the time that has passed with the artists grandparent.

I will have them displayed on the screen, and Bradley (my artist) might be looking at some of the photos.

I also have a photo album of photos that are from Bradley's childhood and they will also be used in the video.

Questionnaire Responses

I have asked multiple individuals their thoughts on the song and sent them my questionnaire as well as an attachment to the song:

1.     When you hear this song, how do you see the music video in your mind?

2.     What are your personal thoughts of the song?

3.     When you hear this song, what sort of clothing do you imagine the artist to be wearing? What is their image?

4. What colour do you think the clothes the artist is wearing should be?

5. How should the artists hair/makeup be done?

6.     How does the song make you feel - what colours could represent these emotions?

7.     What could be happening in the music video? (What do you see happening?) Is it happening in a location or studio, and is it a performance or narrative video?

8.     Is there anyone besides the main person in the video? A dancer, or another person in the narrative? Male/female?

9.     Should the video be slightly controversial or should it be simple?

10.     Should I put a child in the video when Ed Sheeran is singing about when he was a child and his Grandfather never remembered him?

Record Label Votes

I asked 18 people to circle the logo that they liked the most to be my record label -

The first logo on the sheet was the one which got the most votes. There were 9 people who voted for this to be my record label.

The other three logo's had three votes each.

This therefore means that I am going to use the first logo.

Opening Scene

For my video, this would be roughly the first 1:30 minutes.

I am thinking that because the chorus is also quite long, it will mostly be a mix between the dancer and the singer. The dance will be quite an elegant dance, as the music is not very harsh and has a lot of emotion going into it which can be expressed through more elegant dancing rather than something controversial such as street dance and break dance.

The singer might have an instrument and this could add to the effect that he is playing the instrument in the song.

Female Dancer Costumes

My dancer is going to be in very basic clothing so the outfit isn't distracting from the dance. I want my dancer to be wearing plain black clothing. This will be leggings and a plain black vest top.

The shoes that I would want my dancer to wear would be the modern dance shoes (which are the shoes on the left), or the mesh half lyrical shoe as this could give the illusion of bare feet.

Male Performer Outfits

I am not yet sure whether I would like my artist to be dressed very smartly, or whether I would like him to be dressed casually. I am considering contrasting between the two styles, however I will have to see how it looks when I actually begin editing the video.

Smart Clothes:

The shirt, suit-trousers and shoes are from Topman. This is one style I would like my artist to be wearing, which is very contrasting to the other style of clothing the artist could potentially be wearing.

Casual Clothes:

Font Idea - Audience Feedback

Above is the fonts which I am considering using for my CD cover. I asked 10 people to circle which font they most preferred and above were the results.

Out of the 10 people I asked, 60% of the vote went to the second font for a CD cover, however some people also gave me feedback about which fonts they preferred for other types of genres and why they liked the font they chose.

Audience Perception

I have asked around 11 people to write down their thoughts about the song, as well as what they can see happening in the video themselves, and the colours that the song made them feel. I had many different responses, as well as some similar responses about the song.

Here are some of the notes which people wrote for me - I will keep them as a reference for if I need any inspiration for my video as the song I have chosen is a very long song (approx 5 minutes).
